The East Face of Helicon

West Asiatic Elements in Greek Poetry and Myth

by M. L. West

A comprehensive survey of parallels between early Greek poetry and the literatures of Mesopotamia, the Hittites, Ugarit and the Hebrew Bible. West argues for extensive Near Eastern influence on Homer, Hesiod and the lyric poets. An indispensable reference for comparative mythology.
