The Birthday Oracle
Give your date of birth and the oracle reads your coming year by the old methods — the numerologist’s personal year, the tarot year card, the annual profection of Hellenistic astrology, Jupiter and Saturn through your solar houses, the Chinese year and the Vedic planetary periods — and tells you what you are likely to do, what you should do and what you may meet.
Your birth date never leaves your browser.
How the oracle reads your year
The Birthday Oracle gathers several of the oldest ways people have tried to read the shape of the year ahead from a single date: the day they were born. None of them is new, and each comes from a different tradition with its own logic.
From modern numerology comes the personal year, a nine-year cycle found by adding the digits of your birthday to the current year, running from beginnings at 1 to endings and release at 9. From the tarot comes the year card, a Major Arcana trump reached by a similar reduction and read as the image presiding over the year. From Hellenistic astrology comes the annual profection, in which each year of life activates the next house counted from the rising sign, and its ruler becomes the lord of the year. The same Western tradition watches Jupiter and Saturn as they move through the houses counted from your Sun sign: Jupiter widening whatever it touches, Saturn testing and building it.
From Chinese astrology comes the relation between your birth animal and the animal of the year, including the old custom of honouring Tai Sui, the Grand Duke of the year, when one's own animal returns or is opposed. And from Vedic astrology comes the Vimshottari dasha, a 120-year scheme of planetary periods and sub-periods set in motion by the Moon's position at birth.
The oracle sets these readings side by side so that you can notice where they agree and where they pull in different directions. They are offered as traditions for reflection and self-examination, not as proven prediction: what you make of the year remains your own work.
