Murray's second book on witchcraft, written for a general readership, which traces a single horned deity from Palaeolithic cave art to the witches' sabbaths of early modern Europe. It popularised the image of the witches' god as a misunderstood pagan deity and strongly influenced the founders of Wicca, although historians now reject its argument.
