The Chymical Wedding of Christian Rosenkreutz
The Chymische Hochzeit Christiani Rosencreutz, printed at Strasbourg in 1616 and generally ascribed to the young Lutheran theologian Johann Valentin Andreae, is the third of the Rosicrucian writings and the strangest. Over seven days the aged Christian Rosencreutz is summoned on Easter eve to a royal wedding, passes the weighing of the guests, witnesses the beheading of the royal persons, and helps to restore them to life in an alchemical work on the tower of Olympus, before being made a Knight of the Golden Stone. Ezechiel Foxcroft's English translation was published posthumously in London in 1690 as The Hermetick Romance. This text follows the EEBO-TCP transcription of that edition.
