The Holy Scriptures according to the Masoretic Text

The Holy Scriptures according to the Masoretic Text, published by the Jewish Publication Society of America in 1917, was the first English translation of the Hebrew Bible made by a committee of Jewish scholars, with Max Margolis as editor-in-chief and Cyrus Adler as chairman of the board of editors. It follows the traditional Hebrew text and its arrangement in three parts: the Law (Torah), the Prophets (Nevi’im) and the Writings (Ketuvim), twenty-four books by Jewish reckoning and thirty-nine as counted here. Its English stays close to the cadence of the King James Version while revising it in the light of Jewish learning and later scholarship. Chapter and verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible, which in places differs from English Bibles: Joel has four chapters, Malachi three, and the titles of the psalms are numbered as verses.
