The Holy Bible
The King James Version, or Authorized Version, was translated by about fifty scholars working in six companies at Westminster, Oxford and Cambridge and first printed in London in 1611. Its language shaped English literature and religion for four centuries, and it is the Bible quoted in most older works of English magic, folk healing and occultism, from the grimoires and the Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses to hoodoo's use of the Psalms. The text given here is the standard modern form, based on the 1769 Oxford revision. It contains the 39 books of the Old Testament and the 27 books of the New Testament; the Apocrypha, printed in the 1611 edition, is not included.
