Agares, the second spirit, is described as a duke under the power of the East who rules 31 legions and once belonged to the Order of Virtues. He comes as a mild old man riding a crocodile and carrying a goshawk. The Goetia credits him with bringing back runaways, stopping those who flee, teaching every language and causing earthquakes, and also with taking away dignities both temporal and spiritual. Weyer gives a nearly identical entry, a sign that both authors drew on the same earlier catalogue of spirits. His seal is one of the line-drawn sigils printed in the 1904 edition after the Sloane manuscripts.
