America Bewitched

A history of witchcraft belief in the United States from the end of the Salem trials to the twentieth century. Davies reconstructs hundreds of cases of suspected witches, witch-doctors and violence across diverse immigrant, African American and Native communities. He shows that fear of witches remained a vivid part of American life long after 1692. Well researched and engaging for both general and academic readers.
