The Middle Pillar Exercise
Israel Regardie, The Middle Pillar (1938), developed from Golden Dawn Inner Order teaching
Usually preceded by the Lesser Banishing Ritual, the exercise is done standing or seated, with relaxed rhythmic breathing. The practitioner visualises a sphere of white light above the crown and vibrates Eheieh, then draws the light down to a sphere at the throat (YHVH Elohim), the heart (YHVH Eloah ve-Daath), the genitals (Shaddai El Chai) and the feet (Adonai ha-Aretz), so that a shaft of light runs from crown to feet like the middle pillar of the Tree. Each name is vibrated several times. The light is then circulated: down the sides, up the front and back, and in a spiral or fountain from feet to crown. Regardie framed it partly in the language of Jungian psychology.
Purpose
Regardie presents it as a method of awakening the spheres of the central pillar of the Tree of Life within the body, for balance, health and spiritual development.
Timing
No astrological timing; Regardie recommends regular, preferably daily, practice.
