Consecration of the Magical Book
Key of Solomon, Book II ch. 21 (Mathers 1889)
The operator writes a small book containing the prayers of the Art, the names of the angels arranged as litanies, and their seals and characters, with the Great Pentacle on the first leaf. It is laid open on a small table covered with a white cloth and enclosed by white curtains, and a lamp hangs above the table, burning day and night. Beginning on a Saturday, the book is perfumed each day for seven days with the incense of that day's planet and hour. Afterwards it is kept in a drawer beneath the table. Whenever it is used, the operator puts on the vestments, lights the lamp and kneels to recite the prayer beginning "Adonai Elohim". The angels may not appear at once, the text warns.
Purpose
The book of prayers, angelic names and seals is consecrated so that the angels named in it will answer the operator.
