Liber Resh: Adoration of Ra at Sunrise
Aleister Crowley, Liber Resh vel Helios (Liber CC), The Equinox I(6), 1911
The first of the four adorations of Liber Resh is performed at dawn, facing east. The practitioner gives the sign of their grade and greets the Sun as Ra in his rising, who travels the heavens in his bark from the abode of the night; the brief address places Tahuti at the prow and Ra-Hoor at the helm of the solar boat. The sign of silence follows, and then the further adoration taught to the student by their superior, commonly the hymn beginning "Unity uttermost showed", taken from the Stele of Revealing paraphrase in the Book of the Law. A period of meditation closes the practice.
Purpose
Liber Resh says the four daily adorations keep the practitioner constantly mindful of the Great Work and strengthen them to pursue it.
Timing
- Season / time
- At sunrise
Performed at sunrise each day, facing east. The four adorations together mark sunrise, noon, sunset and midnight; Crowley also recommends keeping a record of them in the magical diary.
