10th spirit of the Ars Goetia · President · 50 legions
Buer, the tenth spirit, is a great president of 50 legions who appears when the Sun is in Sagittarius. The Goetia credits him with teaching natural and moral philosophy, logic and the virtues of herbs and plants, with healing distempers and with giving good familiars. Weyer's Pseudomonarchia lists him with the same offices. Collin de Plancy's Dictionnaire infernal (1863 edition) later illustrated him as a lion's head ringed by five goat legs, which became his best-known image.
