The 72 Spirits of the Ars Goetia
Marax (Morax)
21st spirit of the Ars Goetia · Earl and President · 30 legions
Marax, called Morax or Foraii in Weyer's Pseudomonarchia, is the twenty-first spirit, a great earl and president of 30 legions. He appears as a great bull with a man's face. The Goetia credits him with making people knowledgeable in astronomy and the other liberal sciences, giving good and wise familiars, and teaching the virtues of herbs and precious stones. His learned offices place him among a group of Goetic spirits whose powers are chiefly intellectual rather than destructive. The seal reproduced on Commons comes from the 1904 edition.
