The 72 Spirits of the Ars Goetia
Orias (Oriax)
59th spirit of the Ars Goetia · Marquis · 30 legions
Orias, also Oriax, is the fifty-ninth spirit, a great marquis of 30 legions. He appears as a lion riding a strong horse with a serpent's tail and holding two great hissing serpents in his right hand. The Goetia credits him with teaching the virtues of the stars and the mansions of the planets, transforming people, and giving dignities, prelacies and the favour of friends and foes. His astrological offices link him with the learned tradition of image magic. Weyer gives a parallel entry. His seal is among the 1904 plates.
