The 72 Spirits of the Ars Goetia
Shax
44th spirit of the Ars Goetia · Marquis · 30 legions
Shax, also Shaz or Shass, is the forty-fourth spirit, a great marquis of 30 legions. He appears as a stock-dove speaking with a hoarse but subtle voice. The Goetia says he takes away sight, hearing or understanding, steals money out of kings' houses, fetches horses and discovers hidden things not kept by wicked spirits. It warns that he will deceive unless he is first commanded into the triangle. Weyer calls him Chax or Scox. His seal is reproduced from the 1904 Mathers and Crowley edition.
