The 72 Spirits of the Ars Goetia
Stolas
36th spirit of the Ars Goetia · Prince · 26 legions
Stolas, or Stolos, is the thirty-sixth spirit, a great and powerful prince ruling 26 legions. He first appears as a mighty raven and then as a man. The Goetia credits him with teaching astronomy and the virtues of herbs and precious stones. Later illustrations, notably the 1863 Dictionnaire infernal, popularised an image of him as a crowned owl on long legs, which differs from the raven of the Goetia. His seal is reproduced on Commons from the 1904 Mathers and Crowley edition.
