The Pentacles of Solomon

First Pentacle of Saturn

Key of Solomon · Mathers 1889, fig. 11 · 1 of 7 · Psalm 72:9

The First Pentacle of Saturn is described in Mathers' Key of Solomon as of great value for striking terror into spirits, who are said to submit and kneel when it is shown to them. Its square bears the Hebrew letters of four divine names: YHVH, Adonai, Yiai and Eheieh. The versicle round it is from Psalm 72:9, 'The Ethiopians shall kneel before Him, His enemies shall lick the dust'. Mathers prints the Saturn pentacles first, since Saturn heads the traditional planetary order.
