An English translation of the Kitab al-Asnam, the early ninth-century account of the gods and sanctuaries of pre-Islamic Arabia. It remains a basic, if late and partisan, witness to the idols of Mecca, Hubal and the goddesses al-Lat, al-'Uzza and Manat.
