Fifth Pentacle of Mars
Key of Solomon · Mathers 1889, fig. 29 · 5 of 7 · Psalm 91:13
The Fifth Pentacle of Mars is described as so terrible to demons that at its sight they obey, for they cannot resist its presence. Its central figure is a scorpion surrounded by the Hebrew word HVL. The versicle is Psalm 91:13, 'Thou shalt go upon the lion and adder, the young lion and the dragon shalt thou tread under thy feet'. The Mars series reflects the planet's association with conflict, strength and protection from harm.
