♉︎ Taurus

Bull · Bull

Taurus ♉, the bull: a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus, 20 April – 20 May.

Taurus, the bull, is a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus and the exaltation of the moon. Its constellation contains the Pleiades and Aldebaran. Astrologers associate it with stability, sensuality and persistence.

The dates are approximate because the sun's entry into each sign shifts by a day or so from year to year; the calculator on this site gives the exact sign for a birth date and time. In traditional astrology a sign is read together with its planetary ruler, the house it occupies and the aspects to it, not in isolation.

Personality

steady · patient · sensual · loyal · practical · stubborn · reliable

In Western astrology Taurus is described as the steady builder of the zodiac: patient, practical and devoted to comfort, beauty and security. A fixed earth sign ruled by Venus, it is given the temperament of the bull, calm and peaceable until pushed too far, and slow to change course once set on its way.

Astrologers credit Taurus with reliability, persistence and a fine feeling for the senses: good food, music, gardens, craftsmanship and the pleasures of the natural world. It is said to finish what it starts and to be a solid friend in difficulty. The challenges traditionally named are stubbornness, possessiveness, resistance to change and a love of comfort that can become inertia.

In love Taurus is portrayed as affectionate, faithful and physically demonstrative, valuing loyalty and a settled home over excitement. At work it is linked with finance, agriculture, building, design, cooking and the arts, any field where patient effort produces something lasting and tangible. Traditional astrology adds that the moon is exalted in Taurus, a placement associated with emotional steadiness, though, as with every sign, the whole chart is read before any judgement is made.
