G. R. S. Mead's English translation of the Pistis Sophia, a Coptic Gnostic text preserved in the Askew Codex, first published in 1896 and later revised. The work presents dialogues between the risen Jesus and his disciples, among whom Mary Magdalene is prominent, recounting the fall and repentance of Sophia and describing elaborate heavenly realms and mysteries. Mead's translation was influential among Theosophists and remains a historically significant edition of an important Gnostic text.
