The Bahir
Illumination
A translation with commentary by Aryeh Kaplan of the Bahir, an early Kabbalistic text that surfaced in twelfth-century Provence and is often regarded as one of the first works of theosophical Kabbalah. Composed of short, parable-rich passages, it introduces ideas about the divine attributes later systematized as the sefirot. Kaplan's notes connect its terse statements to later Kabbalistic thought, making the volume useful for readers tracing the tradition's formative stages.
