The Legends of the Jews

Louis Ginzberg's monumental compilation, first published in multiple volumes beginning in 1909, gathers aggadic legends from Talmud, Midrash and many later sources and arranges them along the biblical narrative from creation to the post-exilic period. Extensive scholarly notes document the sources and parallels. It is an unrivaled reference for the angelology, cosmology and lore surrounding biblical figures that informed Jewish mysticism and later Western esoteric traditions.
