The Birth of Kumāra
A translation, with facing Sanskrit, of Kālidāsa's court epic Kumārasambhava in the Clay Sanskrit Library. The poem tells of Pārvatī's love for the ascetic Śiva, the burning of Kāma by Śiva's third eye, Pārvatī's austerities and the divine marriage that leads to the birth of the war god Kumāra.
