The Benedictine scholar's revised treatise on apparitions, revenants and the vampires reported from Hungary, Moravia and Serbia, first published as dissertations in 1746. Calmet collected the eighteenth-century reports and weighed them cautiously, making the book a central text of the Enlightenment vampire controversy.
