Zohar

The Book of Splendor

by Gershom Scholem · Gershom Scholem (ed.)

Gershom Scholem's small Schocken selection introduced English readers to the Zohar's most memorable passages, from the creation of the world and the mystery of the letters to the soul's ascent and the death of Rabbi Shimon bar Yohai. Brief and elegantly edited, it serves as a quick, authoritative sampler. It works well as a first encounter with the text or as a companion to Scholem's historical studies of the Kabbalah.
