The Master Builder
Twenty-two is the master number of the builder in modern numerology: a heightened Four that joins large vision to the patience to make it real.
Personality
Twenty-two is the second master number, left unreduced instead of becoming 4. Numerologists describe the 22 life path as combining the intuition of 11 with the practicality and discipline of Four. The result, in the tradition's portrait, is a person able to conceive large plans and to carry them out in the world: the founder of an institution, the architect of a movement, the builder of something meant to outlast its maker.
Strengths
The strengths of Twenty-two are vision, organisation and steady determination. Twenty-twos are said to think in terms of systems and generations, to be capable leaders of large undertakings and to combine idealism with common sense. They are described as hardworking, patient and able to inspire confidence because they so clearly know how to get things done.
Challenges
The tradition treats 22 as the most demanding of the numbers. The pressure of great potential can bring anxiety, overwork or a sense of never having done enough. A Twenty-two may become controlling, impatient with those who do not share the vision, or so cautious that the plan never begins. Numerologists often say such people may live as a Four for many years. The lesson assigned is to serve the work rather than the ego, and to let others share the building.
Love and friendship
In relationships Twenty-twos are described as loyal, protective and serious, but sometimes absorbed in their projects. They are said to need a partner who understands their sense of mission and offers stability, and to show love through reliability and practical care.
Work and calling
Numerology links 22 with large-scale work: architecture, engineering, government, diplomacy, international business, the founding of schools, charities or religious communities, and any role that turns an ideal into an institution.
In history and symbolism
Twenty-two is the number of letters in the Hebrew alphabet. The Sefer Yetzirah teaches that God created the world through the ten sefirot and the twenty-two letters, together the "thirty-two paths of wisdom", and in later Kabbalah the twenty-two letters became the paths joining the sefirot on the Tree of Life. Psalm 119, the longest psalm, is an alphabetical acrostic in twenty-two stanzas, and the Book of Revelation has twenty-two chapters. Most influentially for modern esotericism, the tarot has twenty-two trumps or major arcana, which nineteenth-century occultists such as Eliphas Lévi linked to the Hebrew letters (see History of tarot). That link is modern, not ancient, but it gave the number its place as a number of the whole of creation.
