Arbatel

Concerning the Magic of the Ancients

by Joseph H. Peterson · Joseph H. Peterson (ed.)

Joseph H. Peterson's edition of the Arbatel of Magic, a short Latin treatise first published in Basel in 1575. The work presents a moral and spiritual approach to magic, offering aphorisms on wisdom and virtue and describing seven Olympic spirits associated with the planets. Peterson provides the Latin text with a new English translation and notes. Arbatel is notable for its Paracelsian and Christian character and its influence on later magical literature.
