Solomonic Magic & the Grimoires

The Book of Black Magic and of Pacts

by A. E. Waite

The original 1898 version of Waite's survey of the grimoires, privately issued in a limited edition with numerous illustrations. It distinguishes between 'transcendental' and 'goetic' magic and offers summaries and extracts of the Key of Solomon, Lemegeton, Grimorium Verum, Grand Grimoire, Red Dragon and Black Pullet. A landmark in the late-Victorian rediscovery of ceremonial magic, it is often read alongside Mathers' contemporary translations.
