The Thousand and One Nights is a collection of tales compiled over centuries in the Arabic-speaking world, framed by Shahrazad's storytelling to King Shahrayar. Husain Haddawy's translation is based on Muhsin Mahdi's critical edition of the fourteenth-century Syrian manuscript, favoring the earliest core of the tradition. The tales feature jinn, sorcery and enchanted objects, and are relevant to the folklore of Solomonic magic and the Islamic imaginal world.
