An edition of a seventeenth-century English grimoire devoted to conjuring spirits to reveal hidden treasure and to catch thieves, drawing on spirits, fallen angels, demons and fairies. Treasure-hunting was among the most common reasons for practising magic in early modern England, and this text shows the rites in detail. Rankine's introduction places the manuscript in the context of cunning-folk, the Lemegeton and contemporary prosecutions.
