Solomonic Magic & the Grimoires

The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses

by Joseph H. Peterson · Joseph H. Peterson (ed.)

Joseph H. Peterson's edition of a grimoire that circulated widely in German and later in English, attributed to Moses but compiled in the early modern period. It contains seals, conjurations and magical uses of the Psalms, and became especially influential in folk magic traditions including American hoodoo and Caribbean practice. Peterson's scholarly treatment clarifies the text's sources and history.
