An edition of the working notebook of Arthur Gauntlet, a seventeenth-century London cunning man, preserved in the British Library's Sloane collection. It contains conjurations, charms, prayers, treasure-hunting operations, astrological material and selections from the Key of Solomon and Heptameron. Rankine transcribes and annotates the text and identifies its sources, showing how a professional magician assembled his own grimoire from the books available to him.
